Why Yahoo changed an 18 year old logo?

Yahoo logo change came as a surprise to many of us. Frankly speaking, not most of us were considering a major change in Yahoo logo. That too, stuck us at a time when Google is in the limelight. But well Yahoo changed its logo design. According to some sources, Critics do not like this change in the logo design and most are ‘not impressed’. But Marissa Mayer thinks the opposite ‘we’re really happy with where we ended up. We hope you are too!’

If we analyze the situation, why Yahoo needed a logo design change? Yahoo had a good logo and if we think about yahoo users, most were not fed up by the old one yet. Then why so suddenly the logo change came? Is Yahoo trying to change the dynamics of search engine industry? Or is it trying to make some major move like Microsoft?

Let’s take a look at the sudden change and analyze the story.

Its logo was not updated for 18 years:

According to Marissa Mayer’s blog on Tumblr, which Yahoo already bought, the logo was not updated for 18 years. This makes an excuse for the 38 year old CEO to try her Adobe illustrator skills and make some changes. But, wait; there is more to the story. Yahoo is detecting a decline in its search engine rankings. Most people are moving from Yahoo to either Bing or Google. It can be supposed that the logo change is a move to make an alteration in brand marketing and fetch back its old users.

Marissa Mayer is dangerous with Illustrator:

Before you try to challenge Marissa Mayer in custom logo designing, you should know that Marissa Mayer is ‘dangerous’ with illustrator. We are not uttering it by ourselves. Marissa Mayer, herself, blogged about it on her Tumblr blog.

Because straight lines are not so human!

Human body is shaped in a way that is neither linear nor a proper curve. And that is what Yahoo wants to see in its logo design. The new yahoo logo has no straight shapes in it. Because Marissa Mayer thinks ‘Straight lines don’t exist in the human form’ so to furnish a human touch in the logo design, it demands that the logo be made with slight curves.

It’s most readable when uppercased:

The display usability of old monitors demands that all writings should be in sans serif fonts. Most capitalized elements on websites in sans serif fonts are considered more readable than de-capitalized or serif fonts. Yahoo also chose a logo that has a sans serif font and ‘scallops’ on ends.

87% employees wanted change in logo:

No doubt that most of the critics on internet are criticizing the yahoo logo. Well some are showing affirmation too. But the real public of the company for whom the logo is being made is the internal public of the organization. After all it’s them who will have to see the logo on every wall of the building. And its good news that 87% employees of Yahoo, who wanted a change in the logo design, got their desire fulfilled.

Most of the changes the internal public wanted in its corporation’s logo design was the use of a Capital font, tilt in the exclamation mark, variable baseline and variable sized letters.

The Chiseled Triangular depth makes ‘Y’ appear on each letter:

Like we said in our previous post, ‘every logo has a concept behind it’, Yahoo logo design also is made with some hidden facts that are not noticeable in the first go. But if we look closely at the Yahoo corporate logo design, the logo has a chiseled triangular depth on each letter. This chiseled effect is made in the shape of a triangle that forms a ‘Y’ on each letter of Yahoo logo design.

Well, Yahoo seems Happy with its logo!

People, most probably psychologists, advise us that we should not care what people think or say about us. That is the way to success. And Yahoo seems to be following the same advice. If not Yahoo, Marissa Mayer is.

But whatever it is, Yahoo is trying to prove its mettle. Let’s see what the future holds for the biggest search engine of one time.

Stepping in the Developing world

Website Development is an easy process if you are a talented developer. And if you are a newbie and want to get started with your website development than it can be a little hard. However, with the help of the following website development tips you can get to the right path quite soon. But practice and practice and practice is essential.
So, let me assume you are a beginner (as that will help me in writing the content for a beginner).

How will you get started?

Website Development includes programming for the bigger part but other small processes like use of Photoshop and other editing software’s can be involved a little bit. But mainly, it’s just the programming languages that are involved including PHP, HTML, Java script and jQuery.

Learning the languages:

Learning languages is hard, however, they are not difficult. Hard, and difficult are two different processes and learning languages is different while experimenting them is different. So:

Get hang of a theme:

People can start programming languages and make websites but that will need some talented people who will be able to develop websites from scratch without following any theme.

What many developers do, is to take out the theme from some free theme providers and start developing their first website. But you as starter needs to make sure that the theme you chose is easy so that you can understand what you are doing, while developing it. And then you can progress to the later and more complex parts.

Do as it’s in the theme:

A thing that many developers forgo is to not go according to the theme. On the other hand in the beginning its needed to do as its said in the theme when you do what’s said in the theme and do accordingly you will get more professional in less amount of time.

Second step - Word press:

Here comes the cool part. When you have developed the overall theme and have developed the website on that. You need to move ahead and to the second level. The second level is the 'word press' here you will make your website dynamic and powerful.
Perhaps, word press needs to be told in some other article. As for you, I guess you now have an idea how to go on with your website development progress. So, keep practicing, practicing & practicing till next time.

Social Media expert that Client's desire

Some people say that businesses do not need a social media expert as if they succeed in sales than social media part will take care of itself. However, that is not true and those who say such things are just saying a thing without their own knowledge.
Let's give you an example: There are so many business out there. These businesses are expert in their fields and have very good sales and purchase reports annually. However, they do not have a single bit of presence online and across the internet, why? Because they do not know how to arrange a good social media expert who can take their business online. Because what people see in the real world is just the demand of their own population. However, in reality there are many more demanders available and can be reached using  online sources.

Evolution of letter head

Letter Head Design
Letter Head Design
According to Webster dictionary, stationery means a paper piece is cut to write a letter. The stationery in old days was used for those people who used to sell products from a fixed place instead of people who wandered around the countryside to sell their products.
By Middle ages, Universities started adopting this term and started providing license to stationery sellers. They used to sell products from office accessories to paper and other products used for writing. These stationeries still exist today but sell far more than just the stationery items that were sold in those years. Today stationery shops sell around 100 products ranging from school, to university products to office appliances.
Corporate Identity Design

Letterhead, that was used on the stationery in the old days is still used by the same name. However, the letterhead was a heading in the old days but now it is named the paper itself. Letterheads are used as a trademark or the official note from company, state or any other entity that is involved in any kind of business for profit making for NGO's that are not for profit.
Letterhead in old days was not designed, instead a title was used to define the company from which the letter is dispatched, however, companies now emphasize more on using letterhead designed by a professional designer for the purpose.

Choosing the right font for your next logo

Designing a logo is an arduous and lengthy task, it involves critical thinking and creativity of the mind. Choosing the font of the logo is a small but essential step in the overall design process of the logo design. In spite of so many free fonts available in the open market and printers and designers available to do all the designing stuff for you, the critical thinking process still remains with you. As you have to choose the design theme, the look as well as the purpose of your logo design.
Here are some assumptions and tips to guide you to the destined logo of your choice:

Type only logo design:

The simplest as well as the most complex type of logo designs are those that have only text involved. That is the logo designs are made up of one or more than one font and the strength and power of these fonts resonate the way people think after watching these logo designs. The best thing to start with these type of logo designs is to decide on the type of business that your company does and take advice of senior designers about which type of font will look at its best in your company logo.

Will it be appropriate?

A logo needs to be done keeping in mind the maximum and minimum size of different branding and promotional products. For example, A logo needs to be pasted on a pen and a billboard of 12 ft width. SO, THe question is, will the logo remain the same and recognizable in both the cases?
When shortlisting the fonts, its better to experiment with different kind of fonts on the computer so to get an idea how will the logo look like when displaced on the product.

Use of Negative space:

Negative space in logo designs is useless. However, some companies have used the negative space in their logo design with hidden meaning. FedEx is one of the companies that has not only used the negative space in its logo design but also made a hidden meaning out of it. But a word of though, before finalizing the hidden meaning of your company logo . You need to decide about the sizes of logo design. There are sizes at which the hidden message in the logo will not be seen. So, the message in the negative space needs to be made in such a way that it shows at all sizes.
These are some of the tips to get you started with your next company logo. Think hard, what you want to achieve with your logo and if you need more help you can contact us.

3W's of Logo Design

In this article, I am going to tell about the 3W's of Logo art in the digital industry. The 3w's will emphasize on the importance of logo design by telling what is a logo design and why it is important and then give clues about the placement of logo design by where a logo design should be placed.
So, let us start:

1. What is a logo?

A logo is an insignia or an emblem. It is used by almost all countries for their state departments. However, companies also use them. The historical evidence of logo designs go back to Greeks, Romans also used them later. The insignia or emblem on coins of different countries now depicts the logo of those states. In early periods, different type of currency systems used to have their own labels, that today we call logo designs.
Now, companies use logo designs for their self-recognition. As people cannot remember names, or if they can, the names rhyme with different things. Like, the apple of Apple.inc rhymes with real apple however, the logo of the company with a bitten apple is a unique logo design and can be judged by everyone due to its prominence among public.

2. Why it is important for companies?

Logo, as told earlier is an emblem that is used to remind people about certain product, entity or a company. For a company, the logo design is important for the same purpose because the logo is used as recognition of the company. In addition, is used to promote the image of the company to public. Because the image can be placed on the products of the company as well, as can be used for marketing and promotions as a brand image.

3. Where should logo be placed for prominence?

Companies have their own products as well as brand strategies by which they make use of their brand image placement. Most companies place logo on their marketing ads, including bill board advertisements, banner designs and others. They also use the letterheads, visiting cards and other stationery products for organic marketing and promotion of their company.
