Today, we have websites, web applications as well as mobile websites also known as mobile applications. But what will be the future of these entities. I mean, what will be there in the future? According to reports from
different sources, Personal computer sales are plunging day by day. Some time ago, that is when mobile phones were not smart phones, we had only website applications. Laptops and personal computer sales were booming at that time. However, in the last two years, specifically after the emergence of tablet Pc’s, mobile applications production has escalated.
At the present, a debate is being going on between technologists, investors and share holders. This debate is about the future of the digital world.
Many think websites will exist in unison with mobile applications in Future
Many people in the field believe that mobile applications will have their own place in the market. Websites in contrast will exist simultaneously for the next five years or more. They present their own theory of diffusion that suggests Mobile phones especially smart phone are
diffusing in to the society at a much slower rate. These if compared with the diffusion of Television and Personal Computers, the rate of diffusion is 50% slow.
Websites are Made Responsive, Thanks to HTML
HTML 5 or (Hypertext Mark up Language version 5) is built for low powered devices like smart phones and tablet pieces. This programming language is a little bit different from its predecessor HTML 4. Some new commands are introduced by W3C in the HTML 5 version. Thanks to these commands, website developers can scale websites for different devices. These scaled websites are normally known as responsive websites.
Coming back to the topic, HTML 5 was recently released in 2011 after the emergence of tablet PC. These help formulate most of the websites so that they can be accessed on tablets and mobile phones. Now the innovators are suggesting that as HTML 5 can make websites available on all type of devices. The trend of mobile application is not going to ruin the status of websites any time soon.
Mobile Applications cost more - Websites are available for less
Mobile applications cost between 500$ to 1500$. However, if we compare it with the price of setting up a responsive website, we get a 50% higher markup. The cost of setting up a responsive website is between 250 $ to 800$.
This difference in cost of mobile applications plays an important role in diffusion of the mobile applications at such a snail pace.
Is It Paradigm Shift or a merger?
In the beginning it was looking like the websites development trend and user accessibility will start to fall in the near future. However, it’s hard to say that websites will tend to exist. They might do that in next 20 years but estimating that right now is tough luck.
What we might be getting is a merger in the technological advancement. The digital world might begin to include smart phones, tablets, Laps and desks as well as let’s not forget Google glasses.
Which channel to choose?
The meaning of channel here mainly states the right kind of platform to choose as medium for your business. Mobile applications are best for analytic, as developers can check the insights personally. However, for ads business, they provide a low margin. For those, who are more in to content and ad revenue, the best place for them will be the use of
websites and content management systems. Making these websites responsive is an added bonus.
Conclusion:
The future of digital world holds something for every one. It depends on you how you use it. The right kind of mode can generate revenue for you. While, choosing the wrong one can be a bad choice but an experience for future.
